Maintaining quality is a core part of working on an assembly line, and that means being able to describe a problem with a part precisely — not just saying "something's wrong." This vocabulary covers the most common defect terms used at a quality check station.

- inspect
Example: "The quality inspector checks every part for defects."
Surface Defects

Position or Completeness Defects
- gap — a space that shouldn't exist between two parts.
- misaligned — not lined up correctly.
- loose
- missing part
- wrong part
Example: "This bolt is loose, and there's a gap here."
